25 Jul 5 Easy and cheap ways to clean your microwave oven
Your microwave oven is one of the most important appliances in your home. Many people use it multiple times a week to do everything from defrost chicken to cook an entire five course dinner. Keeping it as clean as possible helps it function better. Here are a few simple, easy and inexpensive ways to keep your microwave immaculate and in good working order for many years.
Tap into the power of steam to wipe away even stubborn stains. All you need are some heavy duty paper towels. Make sure they absorb enough water so they drip water when you pick them up. Place a microwave safe dish in the oven. Place the soaking wet towels on top of the dish. Set the timer to run at least three minutes and turn it on the highest setting. The water will create steam inside the oven. The steam will then coat the entire oven. All you have to do is give it a quick wipe with the paper towels and you’ve cleaned your microwave.
Baking Soda is Ideal
Baking soda has long been used to clean many things including standard ovens. You can use it to clean your microwave just like you use to clean other items. This is ideal if you haven’t cleaned the microwave in a while as it will help remove even very tough old stains. All you have to do is make a paste that combines two parts soda with one part water. Apply the paste to the interior and let sit for five minutes. Wipe clean with a sponge.
Lemon Juice and Other Kinds of Citrus
The acids in various kinds of citrus fruit can help clean your oven. Acid cuts through grease and other kinds of old stains. Cut one in half and then put on top of a microwave safe plate. Add in enough water to cover the bottom of the plate. Set the timer for a minute. The heat will steam the lemon and clean your oven at the same time. All you have to do is wipe it up. The interior will also have a fresh, clean scent.
Vinegar and Water
Another ideal acid that can help remove stains is vinegar. Cheap, easy to use and natural, vinegar can be combined with water to make your microwave shine again. A single teaspoon of white wine vinegar can be added to the cup. Turn the power on high for at least five minutes for maximum results. The solution will use steam and acid to clean the oven. Wipe any remaining residue from the microwave.
Clean your microwave the same way you clean your dishes. Put a few drops of dish washing liquid into a microwave safe bowl along with enough water to cover the bowl halfway. Leave the microwave on for a minute. Remove the bowl. You can use a damp sponge to thoroughly clean the interior quickly and easily.
